| Hi, guys! Oh, it's been a while and I'm sorry for the delay in the newsletter. Little embarrassing, especially after saying that I'd be on the ball on putting this out on a regular schedule. Oops! But, there are benefits here. We got some walls painted, some new light fixtures, successfully hosted a big catered event at Hi Point (I was a little stressed about that one, but it was way fun in the end!) and got the website almost re-done! Now we're moving onto planning the new menu, which is a whole new adventure given the fact that we have a kitchen and people who know how to use it. Wild! Other than that, there's just a lot of bits of news. One little tidbit is that I have been selected to compete in an entrepreneurial adventure put on by the local chapter of the Entrepreneurs' Organization, called MegaMind. It has yet to begin, so I'm a little unsure of exactly what it'll be, but I do know it's a mentoring program that is intended to help the selected 6 small businesses to achieve their goals over a 6 month period. This mentoring is perfectly timed for us moving into our new location, since we are looking at a new set of opportunities. The EO organization has compared MegaMind to receiving tens of thousands of dollars in free business services through mentoring of all aspects of our business and it couldn't be at a better time. So, we'll see what brain-iac ideas come out of this! The good thing is I'll be surrounded by super smart people to only let the good ones fly. Exciting, no? :) Also, a wonderful customer of ours works for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and has identified a need for shoes. When she's out in the field, at times children come without adequate shoes and now Fall is upon us. What would you think of gathering gently used shoes? We could then give them to Crystal and she could distribute in her travels around Northern Nevada? I know children's shoes are needed, but adult sizes would be welcome as well, I'm sure. Thank you in advance!! And...this weekend is the balloon races. I was thinking of taking reservations for our outdoor patio, 'cause we'll have a darn good view, but I think we'll make it first come, first serve. So, keep that in mind for this weekend!! It'll be lovely. :) And...we've decided to keep the "library" walls community space. You'll find big, fat sharpies in there and you're welcome to express yourself in ink on the walls! When it gets to be too much, we'll paint it white again and start all over. The wall is currently un-marked, so if you want some "freshies" on the wall, hop to! And...I'm thinking about doing a mural on a couple of the walls. I'd like to have there be community involvement in making that happen, but I'm not exactly sure how so if you have thoughts along these lines, please send me an email.sarah@hipointcoffee.com And...New ART on the walls! :) We have a new photographer featured on our wall. It's really nice work, though I'm don't know how to adequately describe her work. You'll just have to come see it. :) I think that's it for today. Thanks, guys! As always, we love to see you and hear all about what's going on with you. You are the heart and soul of everything we do here, so don't be a stranger! Come in, watch some balloons, draw on a wall and sip on a cup o' joe. :) Cheers! Sarah PS Calling all hermit cookie lovers! Serena's made a fresh batch. Woot! |

New Word of the Day Game!
OK, I think we should change the rules of the Word of the Day Game. No one gave me a submission this week and after sitting down and slogging my way through my writing, I can see why. It's hard! So, I think we'll make this a non-competition. You submit a work of less than 200 words with all the seven words of the day, we'll publish it in the newsletter and you get a free small coffee or upgrade in size for your favorite drink. How's that sound? Let's get some writing going! :)
Also, we're going to change to Merriam-Webster word of the day. Dictionary.com is kinda lame.
So, here's my submission for the last seven words we put up...
Natty, fallow, gibbous, belletristic, phthisis, maquette, nomothetic.
"She laid still, relishing the abundant sun as it streamed through the window of her daughter's natty guest bedroom window. The room was full of her favorite comforts; antique quilts, the over-stuffed chair next to a pile of belletristic novels, deep carpets and the dense quiet blanketing the home while her family was away.
For now, the discomfort of her phthisic body was quieted by a surprising swell of gratitude for her life which came to her now as nomothetic images of her younger self, her own belly burgeoning and gibbous with life, her babies as tiny and perfect maquettes of their future full expressions. She lived again the blossoming of herself, her home and family. And she felt her husband, his solid presence and again his ebbing into a darkness, which felt this time enticing and warm, instead of the maddening abyss she felt the first time he left. She saw her life in warm hues and soft lines and she gave thanks for the joy of living. Then she gave thanks for the joy of the growing stillness of her own fallow self, preparing for the next season." Your next seven words... aliment, benison, piceous, rollick, jocose, hieratic, sedulous It's your turn! Write, write, write!! :) |
