news, news and more news

Hello, my lovely folks! :) Sorry for the delay on the newsletter...again! Shoot. I have to say that I love having my office at the shop, but it isn't conducive to sitting down and writing since I'm as distractible as a gnat. Customers walkin' in and chatting is one of my great joys, so how am I supposed to sit still? So, I'm having to come up with new solutions to get myself to focus. I'm considering blinders and headphones, but I'm pretty sure what it's going to come down to is good ol' fashioned self control, which is...hard. It feels like being a freshman in the dorms all over again! Fun!! And that's the problem... :) There's plenty o' news in this note, so I'll let it speak for itself. However, a couple quick notes. We are able to recycle now, which is really exciting! We have a receptacle by the cream and sugar station. :) Also, we've sold two of the large pieces from our current art show, which is super exciting. We have this show on display for the next couple weeks until the next show comes in, so if you haven't seen the current artist, I hope you make it in soon! OK, folks. Gotta go since there are customers to go talk to! :)

New Word of the Day Game!
Here's a new entertainment for the word geeks in our midst, me included! We post the word of the day every day from dictionary.com and I thought it'd be fun to post 7 words from the previous week in this newsletter. Then the fun begins! You can write a max of 200 word narrative or anything you want that contains all seven words of the day, used properly, of course. The winning selection will be published in this newsletter and the winning author gets a free cup o' joe or whatever you'd like to drink! You can email your submissions to me sarah@hipointcoffee.com.

I won't be judging, because I'll be submitting, of course. We're still putting together a system for selecting the weekly winner, but we might as well get started!

Here's your words for the week... spoonerism, beguile, compeer, billet doux, vicinage, pillory, pelagic

Please submit by Monday evening so we have time to peruse and choose! :) One of the benefits of this running contest is it'll actually hold my tootsies to the fire on getting this newsletter out on a regular schedule. So, rest assured I'll start actually writing this on Wednesday, you'll have til Sunday to write and the following Wednesday we'll have our winner! :)

Friday August 31st, 4:30pm Wisdom and Wine
Come discuss all things spiritual and drink wine! Yeah! Every month, we choose a general subject, share experiences and learn from other folks who are interested in exploring spirituality. We keep our kitchen open for dinner or snacks, as well!

New Products, New Milks...
As you can imagine, the various milks are of great interest in a coffee shop and we've just changed one and added one! We're now serving an organic almond milk, which we've found that doesn't curdle with espresso. Also, I've found an organic soy that is a non-GMO product and is absolutely delicious. As a soy drinker myself, I'm pretty stoked about this one. :)

As for our regular milk, I'm proud to say that we serve our local Model Dairy delivered by Morning Star. I was recently learning about synthetic milk (yes, it exists!) and how it ends up in our milk supply. Super gross. Thankfully we have Model, who works with our local dairy farmers. Here's a couple articles about Morning Star milk delivery service and Model from edible Reno/Tahoe!

Three New Wines and a One New Beer!
de Bodega Alconde Granacha Ole! 2009 Spanish wine that's an easy drinker. Low in tannins, rich in flavor!

Leese - Fitch Chardonnay 2009
"This Chardonnay is bursting with aromas of ripe Lychee nut, tropical melon, and crisp Anjou Pear. After the initial blast of fruit your senses will be bathed with aromas of roasted chestnut, vanilla caramel apple, and an ample dose of rich French Oak."

Leese - Fitch Sauvignon Blanc 2009
90 points from Wine Enthusiast! "A lovely Sauvignon Blanc, dry, crisply acidic and clean, with complex citrus fruit, flower and mineral flavors."

EEL River Organic Porter "This certified organic Porter uses a complex blend of five malts...rich, smooth beer with suggestions of chocolate and just a hint of coffee. So smooth and malty..."
