| Hello! I was just commenting on today that it just doesn't feel like Christmas yet to me. I've got to do something about my disconnect from the season. Clearly it's time to start eating Christmas candy, drinking peppermint mochas, watching Elf and White Christmas and somewhere along the way, my inner clock will notice the season is upon us. I hope you're not suffering from my seasonal dis-connect disorder, a new version SDD. Someday there'll be a pill for this, but in the meantime, I'm going to start drinking soy nog and occcasionally, I'm even going to add the brandy. :) In other news, we were reviewed in the Reno News and Review this week and I'm so pleased to say that they enjoyed their visit. :) That makes two great reviews in the last month, which is just wonderful! You can check out the review here... http://www.newsreview.com/reno/hi-times/content?oid=4550718 In other-other news, we hit a little speed bump in our plans for the season. Nothing catastrophic, but an essential piece of kitchen equipment (our big refrigerator) is out of repair and will be down for the next week. Yikes! This set me back for a minute, but we're definitely getting our system figured out thanks to the flexibility and ingenuity of my staff, the kind folks at Ribeiro Co who are allowing us the use of walk-in refrigerator next door and also thanks to some borrowed coolers and some really cold temperatures. Man, I'm glad this didn't happen in August! So, when you come in and you see buttermilk and eggs in the front 'fridge instead of beer, that is what has happened. Never fear, though! The beer will continue to flow and it will be cold. However, the bottle may be somewhat moist from the ice. :) The biggest problem this has caused is a wrinkle in my holiday plans for candies, mixes, etc. We will definitely still offer gift certificates and an assortment of candies and hot cocoa mixes, but it will not be as ambitious as I set out for us last week. Sometimes sanity and prudent decisions must take reign. Only sometimes, though! Anyway, we'll be placing our first focus on our events through the holiday. If you have a special request or are in any way disappointed by us not rolling out candy by the pound, please let me know and perhaps we can still accommodate your needs. sarah@hipointcoffee.com Well, it's time for me to head off and find some holiday cheer! No, that's not code for brandy, but really only 'cause I don't have any and I'll probably be fixing that shortly. ;) I wish you all the best and I certainly do hope to see you soon. Thank you for all you do! Sarah |

FREE We'll be serving our bar menu during this performance. 12/9 7-9 Ed Corey Trio $5 cover Jazz trio, featuring Ed Corey from UNR on jazz guitar. Great music, wonderful way to spend a relaxing evening! We'll be serving our bar menu during this performance. 12/10 7-9pm The Gabardine Sisters CD Release Party! $5 cover The Gabardine Sisters perform an 30's style "live" radio program, complete with music and an announcer and the whole sha-bang, Prairie Home Companion style. It's totally completely charming and a good ol' time. I'm honored to host the party as they release their first CD to the world at Hi Point this Saturday! They can tell their own story the best, of course... "The Gabardine Sisters, Tulla, Dinah and Nettie, perform "The Homespun Harmony Hour", a "live" radio show, call letters KQLT, from the make-believe town of Cotton Creek. Joined by their cousin and Announcer/guitarist Riley Hayes and Uncle Hobart "Geezer" Gaddy on upright bass, the show is complete with commercial jingles, family stories and three-part harmony through-out! The Sisters are always dressed the part with their lace collars and hats, flowery dresses and perhaps even a fox fur or two. They might even be able to write and perform a jingle just for you!" Folks are encouraged to come dressed to in 1930's garb and there will be prizes for the best outfit. The CD is $10 bucks, $5 cover. And if that wasn't exciting enough...Hi Point will be serving a 1930's dinner special to honor our favorite sisters. Old school meatloaf served with "hobo pocket" potatoes and green beans with lots o' butter. Dessert is of course shoo-fly pie bars. Did you even know it's a real pie? I didn't. Kinda embarrassing! :) Check out the Gabardine Sisters here! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTG20NEzJeU Congratulations, Gabardines! 12/15 6:30-8:30pm Caroling with the Reno Baroque Ensemble! $5 donation to RBE Here's the idea. Very complicated. We gather and sing carols together! RBE will supply the caroling books, so you don't have to pretend to remember the words and you just sing the melody. The choir will provide the harmonies and all the sound you need to feel like a holiday rock star. And for those who are thinking that you don't wanna come because you can't, shouldn't, won't, or wouldn't dream of singing in public, stop that negative-Nancy talk! For starters, I don't believe you can't sing and second, how you think you sound is irrelevant 'cause if you love Christmas music, you'll love this event! I tell you this for certain, you've never had so much fun singing in your life because there are few things better than singing in a group, creating a lovely sound. And the choir will fill the room with such a sound that you'll find your place in the song so simply, you'll have nothing to do but enjoy the moment. And...even better, Reno Baroque will do a few songs, as well, to complete the evening. Hi Point will be offering a holiday spread of some of my holiday favorites... Swedish meatballs or vegetarian mushroom "meat"balls with mashed potatoes and gravy, crudites, apple spiced cider and Christmas cookies! Mulled spiced wine will also be served along with our usual beer/wine selection and coffee drinks. The banquet will be priced $12 for adults and $8 for children 11 and under. 12/17 7-9pm Blarney Celtic Duo! FREE Our favorite Irish boys! Keith and Dan are charming, talented, genuine souls and a kick in the pants, all at the same time. We'll be serving our regular lunch menu if you need something to soak up the beer. And! We'll be serving our homemade chocolate and stout beer floats. They are truly amazing and they only come around when Blarney comes to play! You can check out Blarney here.... http://www.blarneyband.com/ 12/18 1-4pm Cookie Decorating Party! $5 per dozen sugar cookies and we'll supply all the decoration for your to beautify your cookies! Yoga Class at Hi Point! Monday, December 12th 5:30pm - 6:45pm Wednesday, December 14th 30th 5:30pm - 6:45pm Yoga Monday and Wednesday nights. Bring your mat! Class is a $7 donation to Jelena. jelenahardy@gmail.com or 530.321.2886 Jelena's style of yoga is a dynamic flowing practice that allows the internal movement of the breath to carry the external movement of the body. As the life force (prana) is intensified and stilled, the physical practice becomes a dynamic form of meditation. Challenging the body and mind to find a balance between effort and receptivity imbues the physical practice with lightness and grace and maximizes one's power of conscious manifestation. This process of self-realization and unity with the divine is the essence of yoga. |
