News from Hi Point Coffee and Cafe 11/2/11

Hi! Just noticed the late hour. I gotta cut my newsletter a bit short, because my choir has the first of four consecutive nights of performance starting tonight. While it is only 3:30, there is a lot for me to do between now and then. Shower, eat, practice, look presentable...it's almost too much, especially the presentable part! I'll have to dust off some dress shoes. :) For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm in the Reno Baroque Ensemble. We have our public concerts Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Please check out our website for more information. We're kicking off the holiday season and we'll be accompanied by snow, apparently. How quickly weather turns here! Nate and I have lived in Reno for 11 years already and yet I'm still surprised by 75 to snow in two days. Silly me!

Got some great music at Hi Point this week and next week. Please check that out. Two breakfast specials for the weekend. What else? Oh, yeah. We're gonna be famous. Check out the little blurb on the BOOK! :)

Sorry for any spelling and grammar errors. I'm late for a very important date!

Thanks for all you do and hope to see you soon! :)

A book about Hi Point??

Indeed. Ian Kahler, our resident and totally fabulous photographer, has been working on his idea to publish a book on the American Cafe experience. To my total delight and surprise, Ian has decided to focus his book entirely on Hi Point! He's also asked me to write the forward about who we are and what's so unique about Hi Point. I'm so honored, it brings tears to my eyes every time I think of it. Is that not amazing? I'm sure Ian's rolling his eyes like a mad man as he reads this (you do read this, don't you, Ian?). However, it does astound me and I love it! We'll start planning on the book soon, but Ian's already got all his ducks in a row and we should see the book sometime in February, if all goes to plan! Woot!!
Sunday Breakfast Special
Served Sunday 9am - 1pm

We're gonna do two specials this weekend, 'cause I can't decide and really, why should I limit you or I in our collective breakfast experience this weekend, right?

And so...

#1 Pumpkin Waffles...
Pumpkin-y awesome-ness and we'll be serving this Saturday and Sunday, all day!

#2 Sunday Fall Brunch, full of earthy flavors!
Sunday 9am - 1pm
Poached eggs served on a pile of Gruyere cheese grits and hash with red potatoes, bacon and sauteed spinach, topped with a mushroom gravy and a side of focaccia toast. Dessert is an encore performance of the spiced apple cider granita with ginger cream. This was too fabby to not have again before Fall is no longer Fall!
Music Schedules this Week...

Friday November 4th 7-9pm, doors at 6pm
Acoustique Cafe with Lenny Walker and Friends!
Free Show showcasing local Folk, Americana artists

Saturday November 5th 7-9pm, doors at 6pm
Ed Corey Trio $5 cover
These guys are truly awesome musicians!

Following Week!
Kindlewood with Strange on the Range
Wednesday November 9th 7-9pm, doors at 6pm
I'm listening to Kindlewood online as I write this and I have to say, I'm completely enchanted! I will most definitely be at Hi Point for this show so I can buy a cd and have it autographed. That way I can play it in my car, learn every word, sing a long and re-live a great night of live music. It's wonderful Folk with a great contemporary/alternative feel. Please check it out, make it a plan to come, cause this is going to be a very cool group to meet and they're from Maryland, so this is your chance to see them in person!

Plus, you get to hear the Bluegrass genius of Strange on the Range! It's going to be a very fun night.
New Coffee from Wood Fire Roasted Coffee Co. and New Tea from the Tao of Tea!

Tim's brought us a Guatemala coffee, which he roasted Full City. That's code for lightly roasted to allow more of the character of the bean shine through. The beans are from the Bella Carmona small estate in the Antigua region. The coffee has a nutty, creamy taste with notes of milk chocolate and raspberry.

New loose leaf tea from the Tao of Tea. We brought in the Moroccan Mint, which is a green tea with mint leaves. Refreshing and delicious, particularly for the coming flu season. When you're feeling a little under the weather, let us brew you a soothing and healing concoction!

New Menu for the Fall!

We are now serving our Fall menu, full of the season's best comfort foods. Check it out!! Click here for the pdf. :) It's posted on our Facebook page and our website
Community  News!

We're helping the Reno Wrestle Factory gather 500lb of food by November 19th! Bring in your canned or dry goods. There's a large collection basket by the front door!

I know some of y'all have warm things to me to bring to Record St. so bring them in! I've got my collection box all empty and ready to gather your wonderful donations. :)

Have another plan for the holiday season! For those yoga-minded folks, Jelena is doing a special event for us on the solstice, December 21st. 108 sun salutations! Can you say ouch!? But, it'll be great fun through the challenge and then we'll be having a little post-yoga holiday party. Stay tuned for more details. I for one will be doing some extra sun salutations every day so I don't wanna die or want to cut off my arms on the 22nd.

Jelena's style of yoga is a dynamic flowing practice that allows the internal movement of the breath to carry the external movement of the body. As the life force (prana) is intensified and stilled, the physical practice becomes a dynamic form of meditation. Challenging the body and mind to find a balance between effort and receptivity imbues the physical practice with lightness and grace and maximizes one's power of conscious manifestation. This process of self-realization and unity with the divine is the essence of yoga.
