News from Hi Point Coffee and Cafe 10/19/11

Hola, my fellow folks!
It's been another totally beautiful week in Reno. The snow that will no doubt fly by or on Halloween will come as a shocker after all this. Every time I turn on the AC, I'm a little dumbstruck and at this point, irritated. I always enjoy the month in the Spring and Fall that there isn't a lot of heat or cooling required, but looking at the calendar, that month isn't coming this year.  On the other hand, I really am being totally ridiculous for complaining about the most beautiful weather on the planet, right here in Reno. Zip the lip!

Last week I mentioned my choir practice and a few folks asked me about it. So, for the curious, I sing in the Reno Baroque Ensemble. You can check us out herehttp://www.renobaroque.org/. We have two performances coming up (November 5th in Carson and November 6th in Reno) and a fundraiser (November 4th) for the new RBE Choral Academy that is being launched. For additional info, I stole this from the website..."The Reno Baroque Ensemble is an early music performance group whose mission is the historically informed performance of music from the baroque period and allied eras." It's a very fun thing to do, but if you don't want your ear talked off, be warned of asking me about choir. Many a person has made that mistake. Danger! ;)

Alrighty, time to talk about important stuff! Coffee tasting this Saturday will be very fun. Our roaster will be here and it's truly fascinating to learn about coffee, taste different brews back to back to understand more about the nuances of roast and origins of the beans. For Sunday, I've apparently decided to supply your butter in-take for the week, but it'll be so worth it!! And again, I'm asking for children's clothing and warm stuff. I think we'll keep this up for a while, since the change in weather is going to be hard for many families. If you are in need of clothing for children or know someone who is, you can contact me and I'll see what I can funnel your way.

Thank you for all you do!
Ta, ta for now. :)

Coffee Tasting with our Roaster!
Saturday 10am - 12pm

Tim Curry of Wood-Fire Roasted Coffee Company will be in the house from 10am-12pm Saturday, sampling four different coffees. He'll be answering questions about origins, roasting techniques, flavor profiles, brewing methods and whatever else you'd like to talk about. This is a free event and lots of fun. Plus, Tim is an incredible source of information so if you have any questions about coffee, he's your guy. :)
Sunday Breakfast Special
Served Sunday 9am - 1pm

Roasted asparagus Eggs Benedict, served on puff pastry with toasted brie and hollandaise sauce. Side of your choice of bacon or sausage and served a side of greens and a refreshing spiced apple cider granita with ginger cream.
Yoga Class at Hi Point!

Did a sorta, kinda head stand last Monday at yoga class. Very proud of myself! :) The funny thing is, I went home and told Nate about my triumph of doing a half-way-there head stand and he ends up popping up into a head stand without a moment's worth of effort. He was demonstrating to me his theory on which of my muscle groups are getting stronger and allowing me to progress (Nate's a physical therapist, btw), but I was still blown away. I've been doing yoga forever and Nate's never been to one class. Shoot. Just goes to show, we all have our strengths and weaknesses and the glory of yoga is we get to discover all of them. Strengthen the weak ones and at other times be amazed by what the body can do. I've never found an "excercise" that is so rewarding, yet humbling and just plain ol' good for you. Love it! Please come join us!
Monday, October 24th 5:30pm - 6:45pm
Wednesday, October 26th  5:30pm - 6:45pm
Yoga Monday and Wednesday nights. Bring your mat! Class is a $7 donation to Jelena.

Jelena's style of yoga is a dynamic flowing practice that allows the internal movement of the breath to carry the external movement of the body. As the life force (prana) is intensified and stilled, the physical practice becomes a dynamic form of meditation. Challenging the body and mind to find a balance between effort and receptivity imbues the physical practice with lightness and grace and maximizes one's power of conscious manifestation. This process of self-realization and unity with the divine is the essence of yoga.
New Menu for the Fall!

Still waiting for that chilly weather to go with our great Fall menu. It's gorgeous outside and I'm working on calming down my impatience. It'll snow and rain soon enough, right. But in the meantime, we are serving our Fall menu, full of the season's best comfort foods. Check it out!! Click here for the pdf. :) It's posted on our Facebook page, too, but we're having some technical goofs with getting it on the website. We'll have it up soon, though!
Call to Action!

Alright, folks! It's getting cold outside and I've been thinking about children in need of cold weather clothing today. I know a wonderful family within the Hi Point community who has brought in two children who have lost their home/parents. This family cannot afford to care for these children, and yet they are doing it anyway with great courage and faith. Their current struggle is clothing for cold weather, since the kids are from Vegas. I heard this and I want to help. So I will find what I have to give, but perhaps many of you may wish to help, as well. 7 year old boy and 14 year old girl. Of course, these are not the only children in need in our city, so if you have other warm coats, mittens, sweaters, etc., please bring this in and we'll make sure it gets to the folks who need it, whether that is the family, the family shelter or local schools who may be able to distribute. Wouldn't it be nice to get together the warm stuff before the snow flies again?
