News from Hi Point Coffee and Cafe 9/6/11

Hola!
Balloon race weekend! So, in honor of the occasion, we'll be open at 5am Saturday and Sunday! Our regular pastries will still be in the oven, but we'll have special savory and sweet hand pies ready to go. Delicious, hot and perfect for the balloon festivities! If you've never heard of a hand pie, think of what a Hot Pocket or Pop Tart should be. In a perfect world, these things would actually taste good, so we're filling the gap. Our hand pies are made with fresh pastry, filled with good stuff and are perfect for walking about with a cup of coffee, watching gorgeous colors in the pre-dawn hour.

This Sunday is also Grandparent's Day. Hint, hint to you grandchildren out there or parents who have the perfect, built-in baby-sitters. Just a suggestion, but grandparents tend to like coffee and pastries. :)

Well, folks, I'll bid you adieu so I can get busy on hand pies. :) I'm thinking ham and cheddar, apple, maybe a berry one or certainly have to have a cream cheese one....so many options! We'll see what we have by Saturday am! :)

All the best to you,
Sarah

Here's more info on Jelena and her style of teaching.
Jelena is a registered yoga teacher (RYT-200) and a Reiki practitioner. She completed her yoga teacher training in 2009 with the Northern California Yoga Institute, which blends classical yoga, meditation and self-awareness practices with contemporary exercise science methods. Transformed by her own experience with yoga, Jelena teaches yoga as the unity of body, mind and spirit and a way of life. Her goal is to help people discover their own healing abilities by connecting with the strength and grace within, living mindfully and expressing their beauty and life purpose.

Jelena's style of yoga is a dynamic flowing practice that allows the internal movement of the breath to carry the external movement of the body. As the life force (prana) is intensified and stilled, the physical practice becomes a dynamic form of meditation. Challenging the body and mind to find a balance between effort and receptivity imbues the physical practice with lightness and grace and maximizes one's power of conscious manifestation. This process of self-realization and unity with the divine is the essence of yoga.

Community News

1. New espresso machine is in place! It's a dream come true. While the other one was able to make good coffee, it leaked like crazy and was getting worse by the day. Every day was a bit of a worry. So, now we're not taking on water and we get to serve wonderful coffee! Sweet!

2. Lacey Mattison and Joyce Furlong are joining the line up of hosts for our live mic events. Lacey will start in October with a singer/songwriter night. Stay tuned for details on that! And Joyce, with her group the Gabardine Sisters, is hosting a Bluegrass/Roots/Old-Time show with great players in "a radio show format, a short set by a guest performer/group, then finishes with a shared "live mic" to let those wonderful sparks fly when good musicians come together.  Simple & unplugged - acoustic only." I love this concept for a show.

Lacey's working on her concept for her evening, which will be the third Thursday every month and I'm really looking forward to that. She is a delightful entertainer! Thank you, guys!

3. Wanted to say a special thank you to Rupert Wates and Dave Turner who played Hi Point last week on their way to California. They're on a grand tour across the country from the East coast and they were simply superb musicians and wonderful folks. I count myself very lucky to have heard them play and get to know them for the briefest of moments. And, of course, thank you to Randal for booking them at Hi Point!

4. A couple of our totally awesome customers have brought in collections of travel toiletries for the Record St. Family Shelter. Let's keep it going! Plus, old towels are welcome, too. :)

5. Mr. Wes, our beloved barista at our VA kiosk, will be coming up to work some of the shows on Thursday nights. He's a huge music fan and will bring a lot of fun to these nights.

6. I could use some help painting our west wall. I suppose I could paint it, but I'm not all that good at it and I'd rather hire that work out. Do you know someone who can help us and maybe work in trade or combination trade and cash? That'd be super cool. Email me if you have some ideas for me. :)

7. And thanks to the rest y'all! The joy in our work is the pleasure of getting to know you, so thank you for coming in and sharing your lives with us. :)
