Well, hello there! I'm adding a new section to the newsletter this week. The community news for a place to say a special thanks or just relay the news of the community. There's always a lot to thank people for, so I think this'll be fun! However, there is the inherent risk that comes with me being as ditzy as I am. Risky in that I'll neglect to thank someone who truly deserves thanks! Ack! Just the thought is awful, but the potential good outweighs the bad, I'm sure. I hope. I think? Anyway, if I ever in the future forget to thank you in the newsletter when you should be thanked, will you accept my apology now? I'll hope you are nodding your head yes at this moment and just that imagining makes me feel brave enough to launch the community news section. :) If there's something you think should be added in the section, whatever it may be, send me an email and we'll discuss. :) Thanks, y'all! And peace to you and yours!

Music Schedules this Week...
Live Mic Night with Chord Soup! Thursday, August 18th 8-10pm FREE! We're inviting musicians to come play with the Chord Soup band. They'll back you up on your tunes and play a few of their own. Paul and Georgie are totally fun so it'll be a great night of tunes.
Come check it out!
Lacey Mattison and Tara Dawn O'Conghaile Saturday, August 20th 8-10pm $5 cover Lacey is the lead vocalist of the late Nothing Like a Dame. While we're all still sad about the loss of that great Reno band, we still have the great pleasure of experiencing Lacey's infectious joy and great musicianship. This evening of great music is started with talented Tara of Marten's Platform. It'll be a wonderful night!

UP Coming Shows...
The events page on our web site is still the best place to see what's happening, but here's the short of it for August. :)
8/27 Marten's Platform One of Reno's favorites! If you haven't heard of them yet, give 'em a listen. :) They are a charming folk/acoustic duo with great vocals.
9/2 Rupert Wates with Dave Turner This will be a very special show. It's overwhelms me sometimes who comes to play Hi Point. Rupert and Dave are magnificent musicians who have been delighting people around the US (and the world, for that matter) for years. I'll expand on these folks as we get closer to the show, but I wanted to get this show on your calendar of must-do's for that weekend. I know this one will be an absolutely enchanting evening, as only great live music can create. |

Community News
1. Thanks to Yve for organizing the books! And thank you to Lori for your offer of helping with the books, too. Yve was so quick, but the organization will only last so long. Your day will come, Lori. Don't you worry. :)
2. Thanks to Sheila for bringing in so many wonderful donations for Record St. They really do appreciate it every time I drop something off and I know they really could use all the men's clothing your brought us. :) I selfishly get the thanks from them, so I pass it to you.
3. Looks like we're getting our new espresso machine installed pretty soon! Fingers crossed that is it's a wonderful addition and here's to no more leaking machine! Woot! I don't even know how to thank Chris enough for allowing us to use his commercial machine. It's a gem and so are you, Chris!
4. We have a new community sketch/story book provided by a customer, Paul. Thanks, Paul! So, when you come in with some time, you can add something of yourself to the book or read to see what's been added. Very cool!
5. Tony has very generously given us a couple RED armchairs! I have them at home to get them a little cleaned up, but they are so very cute and definitely belong at Hi Point. Thank you, Tony!
6. And thanks to the rest y'all! The joy in our work is the pleasure of getting to know you, so thank you for coming in and sharing your lives with us. :) |
New Book Club Selection
"Daddy Needs a Drink"
This definitely sounds funny, even to me, the dedicated non-parent. I can only imagine the difficulties of parenthood, so it seems a truly great idea to sit back and have a good laugh at the craziness of it all, right? And I get to sit back and laugh at y'all and call you suckers. ;)
Next meeting is August 28th! |
New Coffee Featured at Hi Point!
Our roaster, Wood-Fire Roasted Coffee, is celebrating 10 years of great roasting in Reno, NV.He's made a very special Anniversary Blend and we're brewing this up for as long as its available. It's certified Organically Grown and Fair Trade. It's tasting notes are predominately chocolate and orange spice, with pralines, vanilla and caramel. It's delicious and I wouldn't expect anything less from Tim. Congratulations on 10 years, Tim! :)
