Hi Point Coffee & CafeNewsletter December 8th
water
Hi, guys!

Well, as always, there's much news to report. However, the most important is our beloved Halley is leaving Hi Point for new adventures! She's going to be working as a dental assistant in preparation for her upcoming studies in dental hygiene. She's absolutely thrilled with the opportunity and I couldn't be happier to see her move closer to her dream. As much as wanting to work in dentistry confuses me (I'm terrified of the dentist!!), she is passionate, determined, focused and will make a spectacular professional in dentistry. I'm looking forward to being a patient, as much as my cowardly heart can look forward to anything in that chair. Anyway, Halley will excel wherever she goes and I'm so thankful to have had the opportunity to work with her for the past three years! She was with Hi Point from day one, literally, and we're all better for it. Cheers to Halley! Her last day is tomorrow, so come wish her your best, or if you can't make it, we'll be sure to pass on your well wishes.

In other news, got some new decor going in the shop if you haven't had a chance to pop in recently. The most exciting thing thus far (lots more plans in the wings!) is the chalkboard wall for community news and the super cool section we've left for you to express yourself. We've already been taking pictures of some of the great things people have been putting up there and will be posting to our facebook page. If you're not a facebook fan yet, you may wanna "like" us to keep tabs on new stuff that's going on between newsletters. :)

We're also doing a food drive for the Food Bank. Our little fundraiser for the Food Bank was a lot of fun and our donation bucket is already full! We'll be collecting all that you bring us, though, so keep it coming! They're in particular looking for canned beans, stews, peanut butter, pasta, rice and canned veggies. I'm also taking down a load to Record St. shelter tomorrow, so feel free to keep those donations coming! BTW, we gave the Food Bank (my friend Crystal there says thank you!!) all the shoes we gathered for children. So, perhaps after the holidays when you find things to donate, please think of bringing us your children's shoes to give to those families without adequate footwear for the little ones. :)

Well, folks, I think that's about it for today. So much fun stuff going on and I believe there's an article in the paper on Sunday about the MegaMind thing I'm participating in, as well, so keep your eyeballs open for that, too.

I wish you all the best and I hope you're doing wonderfully this hoilday Season!

Much love,
Sarah
Sunday Brunch!
Sunday, December 9th, 9am - 2pm

It's Halley's last brunch, so she's setting the menu with minimal intervention from me. Though, I didn't really see a need to dive in, either. Cheers, Halley!

Brunch starts with dates stuffed with gorgonzola and wrapped in proscuitto and baked til crispy, followed by pecan praline French toast with eggs and bacon and finished with a citrus shortcake with lemon curd. $16

Upcoming Events!

Thursday Evening Holiday Crafting!
6:30-8:30, Every Thursday thru the Holidays!
Every Thursday of the holiday season (except Thanksgiving!), we'll be opening our doors to folks who'd like to gather to work on crafts or even holiday cards while chatting and sipping on delicious things. I vote wine. Serena is responsible and is planning on tea! :) Our kitchen will be closed, but we'll gladly serve our pastries and beverages. I'll think this'll be perfect for doing holiday cards. I haven't actually succeeded at that in years, so this could be just the motivation I need to sit down and do it. Conversation makes it so much more fun and multiplies the holiday feeling behind the holiday tasks!

Christmas Cookie Decorating
December 16th, 1pm - 4pm
We did this last year and it was quite a bit of fun. Our can pre-order sugar cookies by the dozen and then we'll provide the icings and sprinkles to make the perfect cookies without the work! Once again, the perfect activity for chatting and sipping!
Please let us know if you plan on attending by Wednesday so we can plan. Cookies are $12 per dozen and you get all the trimmings plus packaging to turn them into a great gift!

Christmas Party  -  Pot Luck and Singing!
December 16th, 6pm
We're gathering to eat, drink and be merry, which for me means singing!! I love to sing and most of my choir, a small chamber group called the Reno Baroque Ensemble, will be getting together to sing and share goodies. I thought it'd be more fun if no one was working and we all got to participate. So, bring something to share and be ready to sing. :)

Wisdom and WineDecember 28th, 4:30pm

New Word of the Day Game!

The words of these submissions! You're always welcome to submit your narrative and be included in the next newsletter!

kaput, adj: 1) utterly finished, destroyed, 2) utterly useless, 3) hopelessly outmoded
dissemble, verb: to put on a false appearance
flotsam, noun: 1) floating wreckage of a ship, 2) miscellaneous of unimportant material
biddable, adj: easily lead, taught or controlled
eructation, noun: an act of belching
watershed, noun: 1) a region bounded peripherally by a divide and draining ultimately to a particular body of water, 2) a crucial dividing point, tipping point
unwieldy, adj: not easily managed; cumbersome

Karen's....
"We were amazed as we were hiking near the watershed between the two states, that on one side of the trail, the trees were absolutely kaput, blown over by the wind, so they covered the trail. Even the ponds on the one side were covered with the flotsam of the storm. When a trail crew came to work on the trail, they said that another crew had dissembled that they had already completed the work, but it was clear that they had not. They were so upset that the leader made a terrible eructation before leading the biddable crew in the formidable job of removing the unwieldy tree trunks."

Mine....
"In the beginning with Weight Watchers, I was very motivated and biddable. Anything they suggested, I did and then some! However, I was always aware of my dissembling heart. It was always just a matter of time before my will succumbed to the pleasures of rapacious eating. Now that the Christmas dinner is rendered kaput before me, the flotsam of our familial rampage scattered on the stained cloth, I lean back to allow my eructation to release. This is my watershed moment, as I pat my belly. My joys of eating outweigh the trouble of my perhaps unwieldy body. Weight Watchers has seen the last of me!"

The new set!

We got all your donations down to the shelter and they were so grateful for all of it and particularly, again, the toiletries. So, bring us your donations and particularly any extra soaps, shampoos, deodorants, etc. Plus, the cold is upon us starting next week, so coats, blankets, warm socks, I'm sure will helpful. Thanks!!
