News from Hi Point Coffee and Cafe 3/10/11

Hola!

I'm frustrated this afternoon. Rainy afternoons to me equal hot cocoa, a book, maybe a blanket. Not inventory, epic grocery shopping, running payroll, etc. Boo! The sad thing is I'd like to think that someone out there is appropriately enjoying the day, though I'm sure very few of you are sipping hot cocoa with a book and perhaps a blanket at the moment, either. The injustice of it all! To make myself feel better, though, I am going to fix at least the hot cocoa part. I'll take the little joys when and where they come and in the end, this wonderful rain will pave the way for a beautiful sun break. Can't beat it!

As for the weekend, here's the scoop. Open mic as usual on Friday, no Saturday music this week only (we'll be back at it next week!), Sunday brunch is spring-inspired and will be absolutely delicious. Check out the menu below!

On a completely unrelated note, it is time to start thinking about gardening. I'd like to start a gardening group and/or urban homesteading group. Is anyone out there interested? My husband and I have removed our lawn, put in a hoop house and are motivated to get started on more serious vegetable gardening and maybe doing a chicken coop. But, it is sort of overwhelming and it would be much more fun to do this new adventure with friends learning along with us, so send me an email if you're interested as well!

Thanks ladies and gents! Hope it's a  lovely day for you and if you're like me and craving cocoa, I hope you remember that we would gladly serve you a cup. :)

See you soon!!
Sarah

We'll be back next week with Pyle of Zen, an acoustic Americana roots and rock band. We'll have more on them in next week's letter.

Open Mic Night
Friday evening, 6-8:30pm
I wasn't there last week, but I did surely hear about how great a new performer was. A 12 year old young man who sang an Alice Cooper song for his first selection and did a great job on the guitar riffs. I gotta come this week, 'cause I wanna see that! You just never know what gems of experiences you're going to get at open mic, which is the point, after all!
Sign ups at 5:30, performances til 8:30pm.

Book Club Meeting
Got my copy of "Farm City: The Education of an Urban Farmer". Just in case you're on the fence about reading, the NYT book review says this about Farm City. "Fresh, fearless, and jagged around the edges, Ms. Carpenter's book...puts me in mind of Julie Powell'sJulie & Julia and Elizabeth Gilbert's Eat, Pray, Love." If you're like me, that says something. Go get the book!!!
Drive for warm stuff!

I'm heading to Record today to make room for more stuff. I don't want anyone feeling crowded in their wish to donate. :)
