News from Hi Point Coffee and Cafe 1/20/11

Holy busy weekend, batman!

We got music, poetry and more music! Read all about it below. Our Saturday music series is shaping up nicely, with several musicians signed up and ready to play over the next few weeks. The music event with two weeks ago with Tim Snider was just magical. Our space is a nice size for an intimate event that fosters genuine interaction between performers and the audience. I was blown away by the quality of Tim's music (as always), but also by how nicely the event seemed to fit into our space. And the word is getting around, so stay tuned for some great music to be rolling through Hi Point! This weekend we're hosting Moon Gravy! Check out the description of their blues style below and be sure to chekc it out!

As for literary events, Poet's in the Round is this Saturday 3pm - 5pm and one more week til our book club meeting, so you have still have time to get the book and get ready to join us.

I'm working on getting a better calendar of events going on our facebook page so you can keep up with what we're doing. I'm also going to be getting that on our website, but that's a larger project. Stay tuned for that.

Hope all is well in your world and hope to see you soon this weekend!

Sarah
PS Just had a thought. Maybe I should be telling you what beers and wines we have, as they do change from time to time. We have a nice selection right now, so we'll probably keep this stocked for the next few weeks before we switch it up. What a thought!

Moon Gravy comes to Hi Point!

Saturday evening music again this Saturday! Moon Gravy "plays a cool mix of blues and rock songs in an acoustic guitar format with the special addition of drums. Rich and Pat are long time members of Blue Haven, one of the best and most successful blues bands in Reno. You'll hear everything from the Allman Brothers to Muddy Waters, Clapton to the Stones, Hendrix to Tom Petty along with a little country, a little reggae, and some Gravy-Inspired version of songs you love."

No cover, donations only. Music starts at 7pm! We'll be serving beer, wine and our full menu.

Poets in the Round
Benjamin Arnold brings the Poets in the Round back to Hi Point, this Saturday 3pm - 5pm. This is always a lovely event with three local poets who come to share their verse as well as commentary on each others' work, the work of writing or whatever other topics arise during the event. It's a unique and fun afternoon. No cover.

New Book Club Book
The new book is called The Coffee Trader by David Liss. It's a thriller set in mid 17th century Amsterdam, in the wake of the Inquisition. The hero of the book becomes involved in intrigue and the introduction of coffee to the European continent. Historical fiction of the most fun variety! We'll be meeting January 30th, 2pm to discuss!
Drive for warm stuff!
We have a third load of warm stuff heading down to the shelter this week! Thank you for all you've brought in. I'm just going to keep this going, especially during this time of organizing and purging of stuff. If you have extra things you'd like to give to Reno's homeless, please bring it in and I'll get it down there. :)
