Hola!!
It's an exciting week for music!! We have two bands this weekend and we are also hosting Megan Slankard next Wednesday! Please check 'em out below. They're all very exciting in different ways. Blarney, the home Irish crew and some of my favorite people on the planet, are here on Saturday. Third Seven is Friday, with a very cool take on the cello. Can't wait to hear that, as I love classical instruments being used in new ways. Plus, dinner special Saturday, Sunday special. It's all good stuff!
As for my concert last week, I think it went pretty well and I was super excited to see some of you in the audience!! Thank you for coming out. Live music is so special and wholly different than pre-recorded. We all have so much access to music all the time that it's easy to forget the experience of live music. But, to see live music seems to me to offer the opportunity to actually engage in the art form as an audience member. That's when the magic of music can happen, for performers and audience members alike. I can't imagine being moved to tears by recorded music, but it's happened to me more than once during a live performance. Not mine, though...yet, anyway. Maybe sometime in my life I'll move myself to tears. Wouldn't that be funny?? Don't think it works that way, but I'd sure like to hear that story sometime. Ha!
Alrighty, folks. Moral of the story is go see live music, either at Hi Point or elsewhere. It does a body good. :)
Hope to see you soon!!

Third Seven is touring through the Westsern states this spring and summer and is stopping at Hi Point in Reno! Third Seven is a one-man band with a cello, looping and is just completely unique and transfixing. It is absolutely a musical treat, but he is here only one day. Megan Slankard -
Tickets available now online!
Megan Slankard is an exciting and seriously talented singer-songwriter on tour from SF. It's hard to sum up how exciting this artist is. She's on the verge of epic fame and you could say how you saw her in a coffee shop. You'd be the coolest person you know forever for having that claim. No lie! Megan's music has been getting industry and media attention for a while now, landing her praise from founding members of Train and Dire Straits. Megan had help with her current album from David Bryson (Counting Crows) and Jerry Becker (Pat Monahan). In short, she's the super real deal and we're are absolutely thrilled to host her! Here's some press blurbs... "Slankard's vocal style is so distinctive that simply naming influences (Ani DiFranco, Alanis Morissette) doesn't do it justice. Her vocal melodies are immediately arresting, she uses hip-hop phrasing and whisper-to-roar dynamics like a pro, and she never lets her impeccable technique eclipse the emotion she pours into her performances."
"Nearly everyone who encounters this attractive and sophisticated singer-songwriter agrees that she has 'star' written all over her"
"She forges a distinctive sound with her smooth and courageous vocal dynamics, intelligent and diverse song styles, and sheer infectious enthusiasm." Acoustic Guitar Magazine Links to her site, so you can see pics, videos, and of course, the music!! http://www.meganslankard.com/ Buy your tickets now and get excited to see greatness on May 25th!

Saturday Dinner Special!
I was inspired by the Persephone Imperial Pilsner to serve pizza, 'cause the pairing (beer pairing??) would just be delicious. :) But, what kind of pizza? 'Tis the question!
We're doing a variety from the simple margherita style pizza or pepperoni pizza, to an "Irish" pizza in honor of Blarney (plus the chocolate ice cream stout floats again!) and something wacky, yet ever so delicious...bleu cheese, pear and bacon. You choose who adventurous you want to be. All super fresh, personal pizzas!

Beer and Wine List
Persephone Pale Ale is the new beer this week and it's very special. Seasonal from Grand Teton, it's a cellar reserve and "has the light body and smooth flavor of a traditional pilsner but twice the strength and a stronger hop presence than what is usually expected in this style of beer." It's sold in 750ml bottles (wine bottle size) and is meant for sharing!

Book Club Meeting on May 22nd, 2pm.
We've had a little wait for this book, but the meeting to discuss "The Last Child in the Woods" will be May 22nd, 2pm.
Here's what Publisher's Weekly has to say about our book.
"Today's kids are increasingly disconnected from the natural world, says child advocacy expert Louv (Childhood's Future; Fatherlove
; etc.), even as research shows that "thoughtful exposure of youngsters to nature can... be a powerful form of therapy for attention-deficit disorder and other maladies." Instead of passing summer months hiking, swimming and telling stories around thecampfire, children these days are more likely to attend computer camps or weight-loss camps: as a result, Louv says, they've come to think of nature as more of an abstraction than a reality. Indeed, a 2002 British study reported that eight-year-olds could identify Pokémon characters far more easily than they could name "otter, beetle, and oak tree." Gathering thoughts from parents, teachers, researchers, environmentalists and other concerned parties, Louv argues for a return to an awareness of and appreciation for the natural world. Not only can nature teach kids science and nurture their creativity, he says, nature needs its children: where else will its future stewards come from? Louv's book is a call to action, full of warnings-but also full of ideas for change."
