OMG! Spring is so lovely, isn't it? My eyes almost forgot how to see the color green. Thankfully the buds are coming in time, before beige, white and black took over my spectrum completely. Close call!
So, snow this weekend on top of fresh blooms? Must be Easter weekend! I'm so pleased with the Easter brunch menu. It took me days to decide, because the options for holidays are always so vast. How to choose? Well, I finally got really hungry couple days ago, set the rational brain to the side and got to deciding. This is what my tummy wants for Easter and I hope you agree, it sounds delicious! :)
Also, super fun band coming to Hi Point this Saturday. Please come check them out. You will not say to yourself at the end of the night that you wished you stayed home watching TiVo. That is a guarantee. :)
Bit of news...Hi Point will be closed on Saturday for two hours (5-7pm) for a private party. Which brings me to another point. We've been asked a couple times now to host events and it turns out we are available to host your event at our shop. It's not something I knew we did, until I said that we did. Funny how that works, when you're the boss. ;) Anyway, it's a lot of fun so far, so bug me if you have an event that needs a home. :)
The other items...some new beers to try and new drive for shoes and clothing for Record St. Also, for those who expressed interest in a gardening club, I apologize. I cannot seem to find the time to organize one myself. But, there are a handful of interested folks, plus a master gardener in the neighborhood who may want to come talk or help in whatever way!! So, if you'd be interested in leading a gardening group, I'd be a glad participant. Let me know and we'll get it started.
That's all for now, folks!! Thanks for all you do and I hope to see you soon. :)
Cheers! Sarah |

New Book for Book Club!
The Last Child in the Woods: Saving our children from nature-deficit disorder
In honor of Earth Day, we're reading a book about the importance of contact with Nature for our children from the point of view of a child advocacy expert. But how can it not be important for the rest of us? I know I start to go a little wiggy if I don't at least go for a walk every couple days. I'm looking forward to this book, though I know he'll be preachin' to the choir. :)
Here's what Publisher's Weekly has to say... "Today's kids are increasingly disconnected from the natural world, says child advocacy expert Louv (Childhood's Future; Fatherlove
; etc.), even as research shows that "thoughtful exposure of youngsters to nature can... be a powerful form of therapy for attention-deficit disorder and other maladies." Instead of passing summer months hiking, swimming and telling stories around the campfire, children these days are more likely to attend computer camps or weight-loss camps: as a result, Louv says, they've come to think of nature as more of an abstraction than a reality. Indeed, a 2002 British study reported that eight-year-olds could identify Pokémon characters far more easily than they could name "otter, beetle, and oak tree." Gathering thoughts from parents, teachers, researchers, environmentalists and other concerned parties, Louv argues for a return to an awareness of and appreciation for the natural world. Not only can nature teach kids science and nurture their creativity, he says, nature needs its children: where else will its future stewards come from? Louv's book is a call to action, full of warnings-but also full of ideas for change."
